I sat down to write this and then it immediately hit me that I am a married woman. I seriously still can’t believe it…with everything that has gone down in the past month and a half, it’s just absolutely wild to me that we were able to get married and go on our honeymoon (despite it getting cut short) before all of this really hit. I feel so blessed and so thankful to have gone.
I am SO excited to share with you today about our honeymoon because to be completely honest, it was an absolute dream. One of the frequently asked questions (which I answer in the bottom of this post) is how did we decide on Cocobay in Antigua? And the answer is, a quick hashtag search a year before the wedding when we were dreaming of a honeymoon destination. What is craziest looking back is that we have ALWAYS talked about going to Europe for our honeymoon, which would 100% have been cancelled if we would’ve decided on that because of COVID. I am so glad that I searched #honeymooners and found the cutest photos of Cocobay. So, let’s get into the full and honest review.
Our Cottage at Cocobay
If you missed it, I had Alex recreate each photo I took, I included some in the blog post for a good laugh.
There are a few different cottages to choose from at the resort. For us, we at first really loved the idea of our own private plunge pool. When it came down to decision time, we knew that the majority of our time would be spent out of the room and so we decided to save money and get a cottage without a plunge.
It was still absolutely STUNNING views and we spent some time each day out on our patio and relaxing in the hammock. You can see our cottage tour on my Instagram highlight “honeymoon”.
Some of my favorite things about the actual room is that it was stocked with drinks in the fridge, the bed was so dreamy with the net all around and the indoor/outdoor shower was unreal.
What’s Included?
With Cocobay being an all-inclusive adult-only resort, it is filled with luxe amenities. All meals are included, all drinks are included, you can rent any of their ocean things such as kayaks, snorkeling gear, mini sailing boats, etc. We loved that we stayed in an all-inclusive because it was nice to really never have to think about money. We chose a couple of add-ons and paid for those all with our booking. There are two pools and a nice strip of beach space that made it feel secluded, but filled with the most charming people.
What extras did we do?
We booked our honeymoon directly through Cocobay, here. You will definitely want to do this and check their coupons tab to see if they are running a honeymoon promotion. They typically have 10% off. They also will offer different packages for the floating breakfast, massages, etc.
We did the floating breakfast and out of everything we did, it is 100% our strongest recommendation. Worth every penny and we were able to relax for so long before they came back to get us. We got to choose anything and everything on their menu to include in our breakfast. We also had fresh juice to make mimosas. It was DIVINE.
Our couples massage was also amazing and we definitely recommend. They were so great and the view was spectacular. We left just feeling so relaxed and able to unwind the rest of the day by the pool.
Other than those two things, we did not add anything additional onto our package. We split those two things up over a few days so it felt like we had things on our calendar while also fully being able to relax.
They offer a ton of day trips, boat excursions and recommendations at the front desk. They really have so much to do that you don’t even need to leave the resort, but if you want a day away then you can see them and they will book you on whatever you want right there at the front.
What did we learn for next time?
Pack snacks. I wish we would’ve had snacks for nighttime. I also loved that I brought my computer. It was so nice to be in nature all day and just relax, but at night it was nice to rent a movie on my laptop and watch it. There are no TV’s in the rooms or resort. US Dollar is widely accepted on the island, no need to exchange currency. We tipped our favorite waitresses and servers at the end of the week all at once, which they said was typical. This is not a “bumping” resort in terms of clubs or a night scene. It is very calm and very peaceful with lights out across the bars and resort right before midnight each night.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What’s the cost/how much did you spend?
A: Depends on the time of year and what type of cottage. I would say you’re looking at $700/night before the promotions. We didn’t spend extra money besides some tipping at the end + the boat excursion we went on to Barbuda.
Q: Out of everything you did, what was your favorite?
A: The floating breakfast, by FAR! If you are going, you really have to do it! It was soooo nice.
Q: How much time did you spend out and about versus relaxing with each other?
A: We spent one full boat day away from the resort and other than that we were relaxing every other day. We had one night we spent with the other honeymooners sharing our wedding stories and having a cocktail until about midnight. Other than that we were back in our rooms shortly after dinner.
Q: What made you choose a tropical location and relaxing honeymoon over traveling abroad?
A: I answered this on stories as well, but I just think we were looking for something relaxing after the stress of the wedding. Regardless if you are stressed in the planning process, a wedding is a VERY overwhelming day because everyone is there for you and eyes are on you. We wanted to escape and relax vs. having to do work of traveling a foreign country! We can’t wait to go abroad soon though!
Q: How far out did you book?
A: We booked almost a year out. That wasn’t on purpose, we just were really excited and couldn’t wait to go. We got trip insurance on our flights and because of COVID- we are SO glad we did.
Q: Did you wear your real rings?
A: Yes, we did because we knew we weren’t going to take them off and didn’t have any plans to leave the resort. I will probably not wear my rings abroad!
Q: Did you book an airport shuttle to the hotel?
A: The arrival shuttle is complimentary and the resort takes care of all of that. The second one we took we booked through them and paid in cash.
Q: How was the food?
A: Oh my goodness, it was great! You have to get the poolside bites one day. The fresh sorbet by the pool was delicious. And there’s a fish option with every meal. When you book through the resort you get all the food upgrades and we ate everything from steak to lobster bites and it was great. I will say one thing I learned is that you should pack snacks. I wish I would’ve had some snacks for our cottage at nighttime.
Q: What should I pack and what can I save room with?
A: I think you should bring as many suits as you would like and other than that I would bring dresses for nighttime with a clear heel. You can save tons of room because I hardly ever wore “chill” clothes or lounge wear. I was either in a bikini or a cute dress for dinner. No real dress code for dinner, casual dresses or fancy dresses were all in the cards here.
