Asking My Bridesmaids
One of the things I have been planning for even before I was engaged, was how I was going to ask my girls to be my bridesmaids. It made me so giddy, because these are seriously my people. These women have had such a strong impact on my life and have been with me through some of the highest highs and the lowest lows, and I have been through the same with them in their lives. I absolutely love these women and couldn’t wait to ask them to stand beside me on my wedding day.
I think one of the most important factors I had to consider was the cost of each box, considering I have 6 bridesmaids and 2 maid of honor’s. I really had to make sure that I wasn’t fully breaking the bank, while also not being “cheap”. I thought about how much money they will be investing in the next year for me (showers, bachelorette party, wedding gift, bridesmaid duty costs, etc.) and it was really important to me that I didn’t just ask them in any ol’ way. At the same time, money is a huge factor in a wedding and I had to be conscious of the money I was spending. I have a few ideas that I didn’t use that I will include in this post as well, but for now…here’s how I asked my gals!
Let’s start with the boxes. They are $5.99 originally, but they do half off of “Paper Studio” products and this is one of those. They are on sale like twice a month, so wait until they go for $2.49 for the white boxes and their printed boxes when they’re on sale are $2.99. I love that I had the gold foil box for my maid of honors and the white boxes for my 6 bridesmaids.
The filler shred that is white is honestly so expensive, it’s annoying. If you have more than 4 bridesmaids, I would say you should use something else to fill your boxes, like tissue paper. The shred becomes expensive, but you can get it at the Dollar Store, Walmart or Amazon. You’ll probably need about 2 bags for each box. I used bubble wrap at the bottom of the boxes to take up more space and then just put the shred on top.
As for the gifts:
Sunglasses linked here.
Straws are from Target. You can get some fun ones online! This was a last minute decision, so I ran to Target.
Bridesmaids cards are from Target, I can’t find them online, but they are in store and come in a pack of 8 plus two maid of honor cards for $10. Similar linked here.
Cookies are from my sweet friend Caroline (@sweet_carolines_cookies on Instagram). She just started a little bakery for these iced cookies and is offering a discount code to all my followers! It doesn’t expire, so you can use it whenever you are planning a bridal shower, asking your maids, birthday party, summer bbq, mother’s day, whatever! Just message her and tell her about my blog and she’ll give you that discount.
These mini Mac lipsticks are in the shade “Velvet Teddy” and I got them when Ulta was running “buy 2, get 1 free” on their mini items. I was just back last week and they were running the same promotion, so check back frequently if you liked this idea. I also thought of “you may now kiss the bridesmaid” and thought that was clever and appropriate to go with the lippies.
Rose is from Target. Other places I would look for small champagne/wine is World Market or your local liquor store. Sometimes World Market has a special on wines, so I would check there!
Some other options:
A cute necklace from your local boutique. I thought about doing a little gold necklace with a star and saying “my girls are out of this world”.
A champagne glass with their name on it, or the first letter of their name.
A full size bottle of wine with a custom label from Etsy. You can include in the card “for all the times over the next year that I will make you want to have a drink”.
Love these cards so much.
If you have a few bridesmaids and wanted to do one nice gift and a card, you could do a leather card wallet with their initials embossed on it. Or a leather travel makeup kit with their initials.
I always think a more practical gift that they will use is better than like a Koozie, bubbles, candy, etc. I wanted this to be something they could use and I wanted them to be able to bring something on the bachelorette. That’s why I chose sunglasses. My initial thought was to do these heart eye sunglasses from Amazon that are $10. I thought they would be so fun to bring on the bachelorette trip, but a few of my girls already have them, so I went with more of an “every day” style.
Here are some of the other cookies my girl Caroline did for me. I LOVED how they turned out and they actually taste good which is hard to come by with these type of cookies. We also tried some potential wedding wine. I had my girls try three different whites in shot glasses from the dollar store and rate their favorites! Everyone decided on the same one for the #1 wine, so that is what we are going with for our wedding! How fun is that?
