Shop my look:
Monument Valley y’all! It was one for the books, and definitely a fun one to cross off the bucket list. When we decided we were going to make the trip from AZ to UT to see this beauty, we really had to decide if the driving was worth it. I think one of the biggest things that made this trip so amazing was the driving that we did on the front end of our weekend. We really thought “when is the next time we will be within driving distance of monument valley” and “who better to go with than each other (especially because we both have patience with pictures and social media haha)”.
Days before our trip we actually almost backed out on this because it was about a 4 hour drive from our first Airbnb. I am so glad that not only did we decide to keep this on the list, but that we decided to drive. The scenery in Arizona will literally take your breath away. Driving with Katie reminded me how beautiful everything around us was. She would keep saying “Savannah, look at this, it’s unreal!” and I would take a minute to appreciate all of what we were seeing. We were both SO obsessed with everything on our drive. I said this on Instagram, but one of the craziest parts of our trip was that we saw snowy mountains, pine trees, palm trees and cacti on our way to Utah. Like how is one state so vastly different in it’s geography???? I’m about to book a one-way ticket to Arizona and never look back!
If you’re planning a trip to monument valley:
- You need to search monument valley on your maps and DO NOT exit out of your maps. When you start to get close, you will lose your cell reception and the maps will not pull back up. My maps on Verizon barely worked the entire road trip, Katie had to do a lot of the mapping.
- Mile Marker 13 is where you need to go for optimal photos. This view gets the slope of the road as well as the most straight focal point.
- There are a lot of cars, so try and ask other tourists to take your photos if you take theirs. This is what Katie and I did instead of setting up the tripod! Everyone we met on our trip was so friendly and helped with taking our photos.
- There is really nothing in the surrounding town so make sure you are full on food and gas before exploring this quaint area.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions about our trip. We had such an amazing time and more pictures/recommendations are coming to the blog in the next few weeks, but I am always available in the comments or Insta DM’s to answer any questions!
